NYU-Asian/Pacific/American Institute (A/P/A), in partnership with The Academy of Saint Aloysius and with financial support from the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), sponsored the Educators' Institute on Asian Americans (EIAA), held at The Academy in Jersey City on Friday, September 30th, 9am-3pm.
In response to the increasing number of Asian American students in New Jersey K-12 schools, EIAA provided educators with fundamental knowledge to better understand the diverse needs of Asian American students and their families.
EIAA participants reached the following goals:
- To learn historical and cultural information about Asian Americans.
- To enhance curricular development by creating culturally relevant materials and socially responsible experiences in and outside of the classroom.
- To work together to address curriculum implementation issues and cultural competency challenges related to working with Asian American students.
- 6 professional development credit/hours
- 2 books and a notebook of resources for reference beyond EIAA
- A network of leaders in education who are committed to facilitating the academic and social/emotional learning of all students, including Asian Americans
