Meet the Artist - A Dialogue with Siddhartha Joag and Tomie Arai Two artists, one established, one at the beginning of his career, speak about the use of public space for art. Following a presentation of both his public works and the current A/P/A gallery installation, Joag and Arai will discuss the challenges Joag has faced in completing his non-commissioned works, as well as the potential of public art to effect community building and progressive social change. Tomie Arai, community artist and activist, was born in New York City where it has defined her work for the past 30 years. Ms. Arai has painted murals with community groups on the Lower East Side since the 1970s. She has designed public works of art for Creative Time, the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York City PerCent for Art Program. Arai was the first Artist-in Residence at A/P/A Studies Institute.
