In the early 1900's, Chun Kong Chow and his family left their village Shan Pui so that he could join in the family's Hong Kong export business Sun Goon Shing located at 298 Des Voeux Road Central (established in 1898).

The business in Hong Kong exported general Chinese merchandise to the Melbourne store ( established 1833) and later to another store branch in New York City (Sun Goon Shing, New York, establlished in 1929).

The business in HongKong was located on the lower floors of the building and the Chun family occupied the upper floors.

A son, number 1 son ( ) was born in 1916 in the ancestral village to Chun Kong Chow and his wife; number 2 son (Jip Foo Chun) was born in Hong Kong in 1917. Chun Kong Chow's brother, Chan Kwan Tung, remained in Hong Long to operate the family business. He later started a knitting factory and then built and operated several hotels.
