Chun Kong Chow moved to Australia
around 1916 so that he could manage the family's general merchandise store Sun Goon Shing located at 198 Little Borke Street in Melbourne, Australia.
The Chuns were also partners in two Chinese restaurants named Hong Far Low in Sydney and Melbourne.
Chun learned English in classes taught at a church Sunday school.
Chun's wife and two sons joined him in Melbourne in 1921. The family increased by two members in Melbourne with the birth of daughter and a third son.
Chun Kong Chow operated the business pursuant to partnership agreements until 1926.
The Chun family departed Australia in 1926 because Australia had stringent limits on how long Chinese legal residents could live in the country. After the Chun family left Australia, the Melbourne businesses continued operating under different partners.
